Paduvanchery Konatchi and Kailasanathar Temples

Paduvanchery, a quaint village near Selaiyur, beckons exploration with its two temples nestled within its bounds, a mere 10 km from Tambaram.

Embark on the road connecting Selaiyur and Medavakkam-Mambakkam High Road, and the temple arch emerges on your left after a short 200 meters. Here stands the Kailasanathar temple, featuring an ancient Shiva Linga believed to be of great antiquity. Despite the recent construction of the temple, all other icons within are contemporary additions.

Kailasanathar Shiva Linga is believed to be very old idol. The temple is constructed recently. All other idols in this temple are new.

The temple, lacking a towering structure, boasts a flagstaff, bali peetha, and Nandi mandap, all facing the main shrine, which houses a sizable Shiva Linga facing the east. Adorning the entrance are small images of Ganesha and Kartikeya.

Within the prakara encircling the temple, discover shrines dedicated to Ganesha, Shanmukha with his consorts, Navagraha, Hanuman, Surya, Chandra, Bhairava, another Shiv Linga, and Chandikeshwara.

Adorning the wall around the main shrine are niche images of Ganesha, Dakshinamurti, Vishnu, Brahma, and Durga.

Adjacent to this temple, in the heart of the field, a village temple venerates Konatchi Amman, also known as Raja Rejeswari in Tamil. Though modest in size, the temple houses not only Konatchi but also the Sapta Matas and a large stucco image of Muneeswaran.

Embark on a journey of exploration and discovery in Paduvanchery!

Happy travelling.
