Exploring FarGo Village: Coventry’s Creative Quarter

Image
Located on Coventry’s Far Gosford Street, FarGo Village is a creative hub that brings together independent businesses, arts, and community events, making it a truly vibrant part of the city. Opened on September 27, 2014, after a £5 million investment, FarGo has transformed a formerly quiet area into a lively neighborhood full of innovation, culture, and creativity. A Unique Space for Unique Businesses What sets FarGo Village apart is its inventive use of space. Instead of traditional storefronts, many of its shops and restaurants are housed in refurbished shipping containers and carefully crafted units, creating a distinctly urban feel. Here, you’ll find a mix of independent businesses—from cafes and vegan eateries to vintage clothing stores and even a craft beer brewery. The charm of FarGo is in its diversity, offering a truly alternative shopping experience. For those interested in something a bit out of the ordinary, FarGo is home to the world’s only museum dedicated to Phil Silvers...

Broadway - A Virtual Heritage Walk

Image
I am standing in front of the narrow Road opposite Chennai High Court and wondering -  "Can I drive? No...not possible....ride? Not sure....forget it....I don't think I can even walk on this Road." "Who named it Broadway? Is it supposed to be a joke?" Certainly, the ultra-urban youth of today's Chennai who spends their time in ECRs and OMRs would never ever visit this place full of history, a part of the Original Madras. The southern end of Broadway reminds me a historical incident. It is the same site where Andhra Kesari Prakasam protested opposing the Simon Commission in 1928 CE. When a demonstrator was shot dead, unmindful of police warning, he did a heroic act. He undid his shirt buttons, bared his chest as a challenge, and moved forward to retrieve the martyr's body. Later, his statue was erected here to commemorate this incredible brave deed, and Broadway was named after him as Prakasam Road. Broadway never ceases to surprise. Almost 80% of heritag...

Mylapore Karbagambal Mess

Image
"You cannot claim to have visited Chennai if you have never been to Mylapore." This is what I told you about a friend from Pune who has come to Chennai more than ten times but has yet to visit Mylapore. Mylapore is known for many things - heritage, Navaratri, temples, music and traditional restaurants called "Mess". Karpagambal Mess is one of those famous messes in Mylapore which Chennaites love. It was established in 1953 CE in East Mada Street by Ramadas Iyer. Originally, it was started as a small eatery and could serve only 50 people maximum. Now, it has expanded as a multi floor air-conditioned restaurant. Until the 1980s, when the bus was the leading transportation service in Chennai, people from far away localities who visited Kapaaleeswarar would never miss having lunch or dinner at Mami's Mess or Karpagambal Mess. Both of them are located near the temple. Filter Coffee, Keera Vadai and Badam Halwa are some sought-after dishes. Even today, old framed ...

Siri Cafe - Chikmagalur

Image
When nature is depicted as a beautiful girl, grass becomes her garment, the colorful flowers become the border of her dress and the flower pots become her perfect necklace. The gigantic sculpture of the girl is found at the entrance of Siri Cafe, a restaurant located on the way from Chikmagalur to Mullayanagiri. It definitely catches everyone's eyes. Regardless of whether you are hungry/thirsty or not, you would decide to stop by and get into this restaurant just by seeing this attractive sculpture. Happy travelling.
