Birla Planetarium in Chennai

Image
Located in the Kotturpuram area, the Birla Planetarium is the fifth planetarium named after the memory of great industrialist Shri B.M. Birla. Constructed in 1988, the campus houses eight galleries and about 500 exhibits. The 360-degree sky theatre, the first in India, is the major attraction of the planetarium. Also, it exhibits a few sculptures and photographs of a few scientists. The outer open area has children part with many statues of animals. Besides the beach, zoo, and children's park, the planetarium remains a permanent favorite travel destination of Chennaites. Happy travelling. Image
Mysuru - I can't avoid reminiscing about so many things when I hear the name of this colorful and lively city. Its beautiful palaces, excellent museums, fascinating heritage structures, mesmerizing temples, beautiful landmarks, pleasant climate, and so on....so on. Is it the cultural capital of Karnataka state? Nope, it is indeed the cultural capital of our entire nation. Mysuru - it's a traveler's delight; it never ceases to surprise you. This article is about one such exciting place in this heritage city, which is typically missed in the itinerary of tourists outside Karnataka. St. Philomena's Church - Oh, my God! What a magnificent structure! Such a lovely attempt to touch the sky! It's music performed by the architects. Like the desire of greedy men, the church is endlessly rising above! It is a marvel and one of Mysore's innumerable feelings of pride. Constructed in the Neo-Gothic style of architecture in 1936 CE, it is said to be inspired by the Cologne Ca

The prestigious Madras Christian College

Started as a modest school in a rented building on Armenian Street in George Town (rather, the original Madras), the Madras Christian College expanded into a strong and glorious institution. It is one of Asia's oldest surviving colleges. Rev. John Anderson, a Christian missionary from Scotland, was a pioneer in introducing English medium education in South India. He started the General Assembly School on 3rd April 1837, with just 59 boys. Anderson died in 1855 CE. Four years later, the Anderson Church was constructed in George Town. Strangely, the educationalist Anderson's name is associated more with the church than with the institute he founded. Rev. William Miller, who arrived in 1862, became the greatest architect of the institution. He upgraded the school into a college by adding F.A. and B.A. courses in 1865 and 1867, respectively. He renamed the institution as Madras Christian College on 1st January 1877. The impressive façade of the building that is found opposite Madra

Melody Wax Museum of Mysuru

Mysore is noted for its magnificent palace and other heritage structures - it's well-known. Nevertheless, your visit to this historic city cannot be claimed to be complete if you do not go to Melody World Wax Museum, which has the largest collection of musical instruments in India. Located in a 100 years old heritage building in a vast panoramic garden below the Chamundi hills, the museum was started in 2010 CE.  How many musical instruments do we have? Indeed, no one could play all those instruments? But can anyone name all of them? Not sure! It's unbelievable - literally unbelievable to find such a massive number of instruments. The museum already has more than 1500 instruments. And the collection keeps growing. What is your taste? Traditional, modern or tribal music? Percussion, stringed, wind or electronic? You can find all kinds of music instruments. Besides, the museum exhibits more than 100 life-size wax statues. Most of them depict imaginary musicians playing music with
