Vaishnavi Devi of South India

Vaishnavi Devi Temple (Vaishno Devi) in Jammu and Kashmir state of India is very popular tourist destination. Similar to that, there is a Vaishnavi Devi temple in Chennai city in South India, which is to some extent popular. Thirumullaivayal, a small village between Ambattur and Avadi, near Chennai city, has few important ancient temples. Vaishnavi temple is also an important temple located in Thirumullaivayal, even though it is not an ancient temple.

Sri Parthasarathy, the son of Srinivasa Iyengar, the famous Indian national leader, got the idol of Vaishnavi Devi as a gift from some unknown person. He built this temple of Vaishnavi Devi in 1954. This is a well maintained privately owned temple located in a calm and serene locality.

The main idol of the temple Vaishnavi Devi is extraordinarily beautiful. There is no doubt why Parthasarathy wanted to build this temple by seeing the idol. The temple also houses the idols of Ganesha and Muruga. A small shrine for Ganesha near the tree an another for Dakshinamurti are also found. Navagraha idols are also installed in this temple. The temple entrance has two small idols of Hayagreev and Agastya.

This is one calm locality, neat temple with beautiful idol, which is a 'must-see' in Chennai.

Happy travelling.
