Gopalapuram Venugopala Swamy Temple - Chennai, South India

Gopalapuram, a well-known locality in Chennai, is notable for being the residence of the Tamil political leader M. Karunanidhi. Diagonally opposite his residence stands the Venugopala Swamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna.

This temple, though modest in size, features a neatly maintained structure with a small tower. The main shrine houses a striking four-armed icon of Krishna, known as Venugopala, along with the processional (utsav) icon of the deity. On one side of the temple, several other deities are enshrined, including Murugan with his consorts Valli and Devasena, Ganesha, Rama with Lakshmana, Sita, Hanuman, and Adi Shankara.

In the temple's prakara, there are sub-shrines for Ayyappa and Ganesha under a sacred tree. The niches on the temple walls feature images of Paramapata Natha, Narasimha, and Varaha.

Although primarily a Krishna temple, it also has a shrine dedicated to Ekambareswarar in the form of a Shiva Linga, accompanied by Kamakshi. A Nandi icon faces the Linga, while nearby sub-shrines house Ganesh and Murugan. The temple walls also feature images of Dakshinamurti, Vishnu, Durga, and the three aspects of Shakti—Ichcha Shakti, Gnana Shakti, and Kriya Shakti.

Additionally, the temple includes sub-shrines for Hanuman and the Navagrahas.

Happy travelling.
