Lakkidi View Point

Lakkidi View Point:  Located about 30 km from the center of Wayanad, Lakkidi View Point is called the "Gateway to Wayanad". At an elevation of about 2300 feet, this breathtaking viewpoint offers a stunning sight filled with misty peaks, burbling streamlets, and the valley mingled with serpentine paths. Whether at sunrise, sunset, or anytime in between, the famous picnic spot always offers us the best experience. It is a "not to miss" destination in Wayanad. Happy travelling. 

Karinthandan - The tribal hero of Wayanad turned deity

In South India, it is a common sight. All the vehicles would stop at a border temple before entering or leaving the town. Similarly, before entering the Wayanad hills or after completing the breathtaking nine hair bin bends, all drivers stop their vehicles at a particular shrine. However, the uniqueness lies in the deity. Here, the deity is not the typical well-known Hindu God or Goddess. Instead, a tribal head is worshiped as a deity. Come! Let us explore the exciting story behind this. In the second half of the 1700s, the Britishers found transporting spices from Mysore to Kerala challenging. The path was through a thick forest that wild animals inhabited. There came our hero to help them. Karinthandan, the Chief of the Paniya tribe, knew every nook and corner of the forest region. The Britishers successfully constructed the road from Calicut to Wayanad with his guidance.  The Viceroy announced a reward for this accomplishment. Pookode Lake

Nestled between the evergreen forests, the mesmerizing freshwater lake Pookode Lake near Kalpetta is an important tourist spot in Wayanad. Surrounded by the Western Ghats, this spectacular waterbody allures every traveler of Wayanad. It is a perfect picnic spot with varieties of attractions. Banasura Dam - Wayanad

With about a one km long mud structure, the Banasura Sagar Dam in Wayanad is considered the second-largest earthen dam in Asia and the largest in India. It impounds the water of Karamanathodu, a tributary of the Kabini river. One of the salient features is it is a homogeneous rolled earth fill. The reservoir looks stunningly beautiful. It is dotted with many tiny islands full of greenery. The Banasura hill in the background enhances the beauty of the site. For adventure lovers, there are options such as Zip-lines and speed boats. No doubt why it has become an important picnic spot and tourist destination. Happy travelling. 

Meenmutty Waterfalls

Whether just watching the magnificent waterfall during the monsoon or trekking amidst the thick forest to reach its top during the other seasons, both give us a boundlessly delightful experience. Meenmutty waterfalls, the three-tiered spectacular waterfalls with a height of about 1000 feet, is the second largest in Kerala. It is said that the fish cannot withstand this majestic waterfall's force and hence cannot survive there. Therefore it is named "Meenmutty" in Malayalam, meaning blocking the fish.  Happy travelling.

Wayanad Heritage Museum

This remains unique among various attractions of Wayanad, such as hilltops, waterfalls, and adventure sports. A Heritage Museum in Wayanad is a real surprise. Situated in the Ambalavayal locality, this well-maintained museum has a rich collection of artifacts that belong to the Wayanad region. They are dated back to between the Neolithic ages and the 16th century. The museum has four blocks: Veerasmruthi, Devasmruthi, Jeevansmruthi, and Gothrasmurthi. Veerasmurthi displays mainly hero stones of different sizes and styles. They date back from the 14th century to the 16th century CE. Devasmruthi consists of stone icons depicting various deities, mostly Bhairava. Some terracotta figures are also on display.  Jeevansmruthi showcases the vessels and tools of Wayanadan rural life and agricultural operations. A few notable examples are bangles, earrings, necklaces, and various musical instruments. Gothrasmruthi displays the objects of daily use that were once used by the tribal. Cowbells ...

Karapuzha Dam - Wayanad

Well-laid vast garden - adventure sports like trampolining and gyroscopes - South India's longest two-way 600+ meter zip line connecting the park with the nearby hill - one of the biggest earth dams in entire India - picturesque Karapuzha river - breathtaking views of hills around - what more we need - it's heaven located in the God's own country. Kanthapara waterfalls - Wayanad

Kanthapara waterfalls is one of the beautiful tourist attractions of Wayanad, which is becoming popular off-late. About 22 km from Kalpetta, it is located amidst a serene forest surrounded by picturesque beauty. The half km path leading to the waterfall enhances the attraction of this 30 m high waterfall. Wayanad 900 Kandi

"900 Kandi" at Wayanad - it is literally 900 acres of unspoiled and lush green paradise. Originally called Thollayiram, this pristine patch of land is a feather on the cap of Wayanad.   An off-road trip through the woods by the jeep takes us to this hidden treasure. It is where serenity meets adventure. South India's first glass bridge, built over a hilltop providing a breathtaking 360-degree view of the entire valley, is located here. For those who have yet to travel to Europe or North America, the 100 feet long skywalk provides a unique experience.  Besides the glass bridge, there are a few other options available on this site for adventure seekers and leisure travelers.
