CSI Tamil Wesleyan Church, Broadway

The locality, Broadway, part of Old Madras, was planned and developed in the 1780s. Broadway, though it appears to be a misnomer today, was a prominent commercial thoroughfare in the 19th century.

The Wesleyan Mission in Madras was established in 1817 CE. The CSI English Wesleyan Church was constructed on 25th April 1822 CE. Meantime, the Methodist missionaries from the UK established congregation for the local people. It resulted in a separate building known as the CSI Tamil Wesleyan Church. It was inaugurated in 1861 CE. Both the churches are located nearby on Broadway.

Happy travelling.
