Allahabad is an ancient city located in Uttar Pradesh state of India. It is also called as Prayag. As per the Hindu tradition, the point of river confluence is considered as a sacred place. In Allahabad, three rivers merge with each other and that site is called as 'Triveni Sangam'. It is very sacred and important tourist site in India.

Two physical rivers Ganga and Yamuna and the mythological invisible river of Saraswati merge with each other in Prayag. Once in every 12 years, the Kumbh Mela even is celebrated here where millions of people gather.

While merging with each other, the river Yamuna maintains its identity by being calm while the river Ganga is very forceful. Millions of people take dip at this place as it is believed that it would get them rid of their sins.

As per the legend, during the mythological event of churning of the milky ocean, the nectar (amrita) fell on this site and hence it has become sacred. It is also believed that Lord Brahma performed Prakrista Yagna here and hence it is called as Prayag. Lord Ram had visited this site when he was in exile.

There are other attractions in Allahabad, which include Anand Bhavan - the historical museum on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Hanuman temple, Swaraj Bhavan (originally called as Anand Bhavan) and Bharadwaj museum.

Happy travelling.
