But, what I am going to write in this article is unique in nature which I have never written about. Mid-Levels Escalator, a commuting system in Hong Kong is also an important tourist attraction.
Mid-Levels Escalator system is the world's longest outdoor covered escalator system. It stretches for about 800 meters and rising 135 meters through the streets of a steep hillside connecting various important places in Central. It is not a single continuous escalator but a series of 20 escalators and 3 inclined moving walkways. To ride the complete length of the escalator system, you would need about 20 minutes. They run from Queen's Road Central to Conduit Road.
Hong Kong Island is an areas which consists of steep hills and it makes it mandatory to have some unusual modes of transportation like this. It was opened in 1993 CE with the objective of reducing the traffic congestion. Whether it was successful in its objective or not, it is true that it provides an effortless and free mode of transportation for residents and also it acts as a tourist attraction. It is estimated that around 55,000 people use this system daily.
When you go to Hong Kong, apart from commuting in taxi, bus, train and ferry, try this out too.
Happy travelling.
