Samayapuram is a small town located near Trichy city in South India. It is one of the most happening religious sites in South India. The popular temple dedicated to Mariamman is located here. It is one of the most famous temples of mother Goddess and Mariamman across the globe. Hundreds and thousands of people always throng to visit this temple everyday; hence, the temple as well as the town is always crowded.

The temple has the main deity, Mariamman, made up of clay and sand. The stone image of Mariamman is also found in the sanctum sanctorum. The utsava idol of Mariamman is placed in a separate shrine. The local village deity Karuppanna Swamy is also found in separate shrine in this temple.

It is believed that the temple is present for many centuries. However, historically the current structure of the temple was constructed by the Madurai ruler Vijayaranga Chokkanatha Nayak in the 18th century CE. Although there are no historical record, it is believed that the original deity was in Sri Rangam temple earlier; as one of the priests believed that he got some disease due to this disease, he moved this to the nearby village. Another legend states that the utsava idol was in the palace of Vijayanagara emperor and it was brought to this place before the empire was nearing its end.

Happy travelling.
