Chennai Sowcarpet Ranganathar Temple

Chennai, one of the most important cities of South India, has too many Hindu temples. Some of them are very ancient. In Sowcarpet area, where North Indians are densely populated, there are few old temples which are very popular among Chennai citizens. Ranganath temple in Mulla Sahib Street in Sowcarpet area is one such old and popular temple of Chennai city.


Ranganathar temple located in Mulla Sahib street of Sowcarpet area is around 500 years old. RanganathMahaVishnu in the reclining posture along with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi is the presiding deity of the temple. The Goddess of the temple, Ranganayaki is found in a separate shrine.
The temple also has shrines and idols of AndalHanumanGarud, Rama-Lakshman-Sita, Yoga Narasimha,VaradarajarSrinivasa and Kannan (Krishna).
