Panchamukha Anjaneya Swamy Temple - Tiruvallur, Chennai, India

Sri Viswaroopa Panchamukha Anjaneya Swamy temple in Tiruvallur near Chennai has one of the biggest five-faced Hanuman sculptures.

Tiruvallur is a small town located at a distance of around 45 km from Chennai. It is famous for its ancient and magnificent Veeraraghava Perumal temple. Besides that, Tiruvallur has another temple for the past 20+ years (this article was written in 2010). That is Sri Viswaroopa Panchamukha Anjaneya Swamy temple.

Sri Viswaroopa Panchamukha Anjaneya Swamy temple was built in the 1990s and has been administered by an Ashram. The small temple has just one image, the 40 feet tall monolithic stone icon of Hanuman. There are a lot of temples where you can find big images of Hanuman. However, the uniqueness of the temple is that Hanuman has five faces. I don't know if there is a temple with such a big icon of five-faced Hanuman anywhere else.

The temple also enshrines the utsava (procession/metal) image of Panchamukha Hanuman. As the temple is currently undergoing construction, poojas are performed only to the utsava deity.

Happy travelling.
