Nagerhole National Park, Coorg

Nagerhole National Park or Rajiv Gandhi National Park is located at around 80 km from Madikeri. This is one of the 'must-see' places in Coorg. Even though this place cannot be claimed to be geographically part of the Coorg region, due to its proximity from Madikeri, this has become a part of Coorg travel destinations.

Nagerhole wildlife sanctuary extending over 284 sq. Km. affords an impressive sight with wild animals such as elephants, peacock, deer, panther, tiger, etc. (Of course, you need to be lucky to spot all of them. When I visited the place, I could see only elephants, deer, and peacock.) It's always interesting to watch herds of elephants walking down. You will be thrilled to watch the elephants inside a forest.

You can reach this place by car from Madikeri or Mysore (slightly long journey of 2 to 2.5 hours). You should arrive at the park gates well before dusk, for the road through the park is prone to elephant blocks and closes at 6 pm. There are facilities to stay inside the park, for which you need to contact the Forest Department of Karnataka.

When you travel to Coorg, do not miss this place. With this post, the series on 'Coorg' is getting over. I will start with my next series on a more exciting site shortly. Till then...

Happy travelling.
