Kariyamanika Perumal Temple, Ayanavaram, Chennai, India

Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu state of India, is considered as the gateway of South India. It has various tourist sites and religiously important places. In Ayanavaram area, there is a 1000 year old temple for Lord Shiva called Parasura Lingeswarar temple. Next to this 1000 year old temple, there is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The name of the temple is Kariyamanika Perumal Temple.

Unlike Parasurama Lingeswarar temple, this Kariyamanika Perumal temple doesn't seem to be 1000 year old. However, this is also one of the oldest temples of Chennai temple. The temple is very small. It has raja gopuram (temple tower). The main shrine has Kariyamanika Perumal (Vishnu) along with his two consorts, Sri Devi (Lakshmi) and Bhoo Devi on either sides. Opposite to the main shrine, there is gajastambha and an idol of Garuda. The corridor has the shrine of goddess Kanakavalli. Kanakavalli's idol is very beautiful and the goddess is in sitting posture. The temple also houses the shrines of Andal and Hanuman.

When you go by Ayanavaram area of Chennai, visit the 1000 year old Parasurama Lingeswarar temple as well as Kariyamanika Perumal temple located next to that.

Happy travelling.
