Konark is a small town located at a distance of around 65 kms from Bhubaneshwar city in the state of Odisha in India. The town is popular due to the 13th century Sun Temple aka the Black Pagoda. The temple which is a World Heritage Site was built during the period of Narasimhadeva I of Eastern Ganga dynasty.

The temple has been constructed in the shape a gigantic chariot with twelve pairs of elaborately carved stone wheels. Although the major part of the temple is now in ruins, it is still stunningly attractive. Undoubtedly, it is one of the best sites in entire India.

The temple was built as per the style of Kalinga architecture. The vimana of the main shrine fell down in 1837 CE. The temple does not have the idol of main deity, the Sun God, nowadays. The audience hall aka Jagamohana is the principal structure which is still surviving.

The temple has a lot of beautiful sculptures and some of them are erotic sculptures.

Happy travelling.
