St. Paul's Cathedral - Kolkata, India

The Maidan area of Kolkata is surrounded by several important landmarks and historic structures such as the Victoria Memorial, Birla Planetarium, and many colonial-era buildings. Among them stands one of the most prominent churches of the city — St. Paul’s Cathedral.

St. Paul’s Cathedral, completed in 1847 CE, is one of the oldest and most impressive churches in Kolkata. The building is constructed in the Gothic Revival architectural style, a design that was widely used in many churches built during the British period.

The cathedral is equally impressive inside. The interior is decorated with beautiful floral patterns on the walls, along with mural paintings and stained glass windows, creating a calm and serene atmosphere for visitors.

St. Paul’s Cathedral serves as an Anglican cathedral of the Church of North India, which today functions as a united Protestant church and is part of the wider Anglican tradition.

If you are exploring the Maidan area of Kolkata, this historic cathedral is certainly a place worth visiting.

Happy travelling.
