Oasia Hotel Downtown – A Vertical Oasis in the Heart of Singapore
In the midst of Singapore’s steel-and-glass Central Business District, one building stands apart, not because of height or opulence, but because it breathes. Oasia Hotel Downtown, with its lush vertical garden façade, is a bold architectural statement, a skyscraper wrapped in nature.
Located in the Tanjong Pagar district, this hotel isn't just a place to stay; it’s a living ecosystem, redefining what urban sustainability looks like in a tropical city.

🌿 Architecture That Breathes
Designed by the award-winning firm WOHA Architects, Oasia Hotel Downtown was completed in 2016 as a 27-storey green tower. Unlike its neighboring glassy skyscrapers, this building wears a red aluminum mesh veil, upon which more than 20 species of climbing plants grow. Over time, these vines and creepers are expected to cover nearly the entire building, transforming it into a living, breathing vertical forest.
WOHA’s approach to architecture combines tropical sensibilities with sustainable principles, and Oasia is a perfect example of this vision.

🌱 Sky Gardens and Natural Ventilation
Oasia Hotel Downtown is designed with four massive sky terraces - open-air garden levels that provide shade, allow natural cross-ventilation, and serve as social and recreational zones for guests. Instead of sealed air-conditioned floors, these perforated sky lobbies let the building “breathe,” reducing its dependence on artificial climate control.
Key sustainability features include:
-
Green plot ratio of 1,100% (meaning the total vegetation area is 11 times the site area)
-
Integrated bird and insect habitats
-
Use of natural materials and energy-efficient systems
-
Rainwater collection for irrigation
🏨 Inside the Vertical Jungle
Behind the lush exterior is a luxury business hotel operated by Far East Hospitality. The interior spaces maintain the theme of natural elements, with earthy tones, wood, and open-air lounges. Guests often describe the experience as retreating into a tropical sanctuary, despite being steps away from MRT stations and office towers.
Facilities include:
-
A rooftop infinity pool with panoramic views
-
Outdoor gym and relaxation zones nestled within greenery
-
Stylish rooms with a minimalist, eco-conscious design
📍 Location and Accessibility

The hotel’s location is ideal for both business travelers and heritage explorers, placing it within walking distance of conserved shophouses, hawker markets, and cultural enclaves.
In a city famed for its garden domes and Supertrees, Oasia Hotel Downtown proves that sustainability doesn’t need to be confined to parks and showpieces; it can be built into the very fabric of urban life. This towering garden in the sky is more than a hotel; it’s a vision of what cities could look like when architecture and ecology work hand in hand.
If you're in Singapore, whether or not you stay here, it’s worth stopping by just to admire what could easily be called one of the greenest high-rises in the world.
Happy travelling.
