Kilkari Bhairav temple located near Old Fort in Delhi, the capital city of India, is a unique Hindu temple. Instead of milk, liquor is offered to the deity of this temple.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Bhairav, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva. Although some people believe that it was established by Bheem, one of the five Pandavas of Mahabharatha epic, neither the idol nor the temple seems to be very old.
The idol of Bhairav is huge but does not have the entire human body; only the head with two big blue eyes along with a trident is found in the form of idol. Apart from Bhairav, there are other deities in the temple such as Ganeshji and all.
The uniqueness of the temple is that you can find hundreds of beggars in the surrounding places who beg you not for money but for liquor. The devotees bring wine, whisky, brandy and other varieties of liquor to offer the deity. They also get back the same as 'prasad' from the priests which they distribute among the beggars.
Photography is strictly prohibited in this temple. Well, it is written in various places inside the temple that offering liquor is also prohibited in the temple - I am not sure whom do the temple authorities try to make fool.
Happy travelling.
