Bangalore, the city of gardens, located in South India, has a lot of attractive tourist sites. Ulsoor Lake aka Halasuru Lake is one interesting site in Bangalore.

The neighbourhood where Ulsoor Lake is located is named after the lake - Ulsoor, a prominent area in the city. The village of Ulsoor was gifted to Kempe Gowda I, the founder of Bangalore, by the Vijayanagara kings. The lake was built by his successor, Kempe Gowda II. There used to be a jackfruit orchard near the lake. In Kannada language, 'Halasina Hannu' means jackfruit. Hence, the area came to be called as Halasuru. The Britishers anglicised it to 'Ulsoor'. In 2004 CE, it was officially renamed as Halasuru.

Today, Halasuru Lake, one of the oldest lakes of Bangalore, serves as an important landmark and picnic spot for citizens of this city. Also, there are some important and old temples located on the banks of the lake.

Happy travelling.
