Apart from Dutch Palace and Jew town, there is another interesting site named Chinese fishing nets in Kochi (Cochin) city of Kerala state, India. The Chinese fishing nets aka Cheena vala are fixed land installations for unusual form of fishing - shore operated lift nets. Each structure has a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end.

The system is balanced sufficiently such that the weight of a person walking along the main bean is enough to cause the net to descend into the sea. The fishermen leave the net for some time, say about few minutes, before pulling on ropes. Now, you can find fishes caught in the net.

You can watch these different kind of fishing nets from your boat in Port Kochi.

Happy travelling.
