Ernakulathappan Temple - Ernakulam, Kerala, India

Ernakulathappan temple is the most famous temple in Ernakulam city, the commercial capital of Kerala state, India. Ernakulam and Cochin (or Kochi) are called twin cities and are almost considered as a single city.

As per the legend, Arujuna of Mahabharat performs penance to get weapons from Lord Shiva. Shiva disguised as a hunter and fought with him. After realizing it was Lord Shiva, Arjuna made a Shiv linga out of the mud and performed pooja. He also got the weapon named 'Pasupathastra' from Shiva. After a long time, a small boy named Devalan, a victim of curse, got this Shiva Linga and took it with him. He installed this Linga in Ernakulam and got rid of his curse. As per his request, Shiva and Parvati appeared here. This is the story of Shiva (Ernakulathappan) of this temple.

This ancient temple of Ernakulathappan is built in a typical Kerala temple architectural style. The main shrine has Ernakulathappan in the form of Shiv Linga. Besides, the temple also houses other deities such as Parvati, Ganesha and Nagaraja.
