Rishikesh is a religious town located near Haridwar on the banks of the beautiful Ganges river in Uttarakhand state of India. The town is an ancient city and has so many travel attractions such as rafting, hiking, heritage tour, temples, river, etc. Let us explore few important sites of Rishikesh, such as Ram Jhula and Shtrughna Temple in this article.

Ram Jhula is an iron suspension bridge found over the river Ganga at Muni Ki Reti, which is 3 kms from Rishikesh. It is used by the public to cross the river. There is another suspension bridge in Rishikesh which is named as Lakshman Jhula. As per the legend, Lakshman was crossing the river on the original bridge located there. Ram Jhula which was constructed in 1986 CE was perhaps named as Ram Jhula to synch with the name of the other bridge. (Lord Ram is the elder brother of Lakshman).

Near Ram Jhula, there is a temple dedicated to Shatrughna, the youngest among the four brothers of Ramayana. It is one of those two temples dedicated to him and hence it is unique and rare.

Although the temple is called as Shatrughna temple, the main shrine enshrines Badri Narayan in the middle. To his right side, Shatrughna is situated. He is found with a bow and an arrow. Next to him, Rishi Valmiki is found. Also, the idols of Ram, Sita and Lakshman are also found in a corner in the same shrine. Few utsav metal idols such as Krishna are also found here. The temple is small but looks beautiful with a garden in the front-side. The temple is located well on the banks of the river Ganga and the people gather in the evening at the entrance of the temple to witness Ganga Aarti.

There is a picturesque site called Swarg Ashram located near Ram Jhula. It is the spiritual ground zero of Rishikesh. It is a hub of several ashrams and small temples on the banks of the river ganga. The beautiful temple or Radha and Krishna called as Gita Bhavan is also located here.

Happy travelling.
