Let us explore one of the modern day tourist attractions, Pawan Dham Glass Temple, of this ancient city.

Pawan Dham Glass Temple has become a major tourist attraction of Haridwar city in the last two decades. It is a branch of Geeta Bhawan Trust Society, Moga, Punjab state of India. It is lcoated at Sapta Sarobar Road at a distance of around 3 kms from Har Ki Pauri river ghat in Haridwar.

The temple is popular due to wonderful mirror works, artistically designed walls and ceilings decorated with the pieces of colorful glasses and elaborately decorated marble idols of various deities. There are many Hindu temples found in India where the mythological stories are depicted in the form of mural paintings or relief images. However, this temple is unique where the Hindu deities and the mythological characters are depicted with the colorful glass materials. The reflections from the colorful glasses all over the temple complex makes the entire place very pleasingly colorful and attractive atmosphere.

The temple has many shrines. Some of the important idols found in the temple are:
  • Ganesha in the sitting posture
  • Ganesha in the standing posture and holding trident like Shiva
  • Krishna - Radha

  • Santoshi Mata
  • Shiva - Shakti
