Haridwar is a religious city located on the banks of the beautiful Ganges river in Uttarakhand state of India. The city is an ancient city and has so many sacred places and temples for Hindus. It is considered as one of the seven most sacred sites of Hindus. Haridwar is dotted with a lot of religiously important sites such as temples and ghats. Let us explore one of the modern day tourist attractions, Pawan Dham Glass Temple, of this ancient city.

Pawan Dham Glass Temple has become a major tourist attraction of Haridwar city in the last two decades. It is a branch of Geeta Bhawan Trust Society, Moga, Punjab state of India. It is lcoated at Sapta Sarobar Road at a distance of around 3 kms from Har Ki Pauri river ghat in Haridwar.

The temple is popular due to wonderful mirror works, artistically designed walls and ceilings decorated with the pieces of colorful glasses and elaborately decorated marble idols of various deities. There are many Hindu temples found in India where the mythological stories are depicted in the form of mural paintings or relief images. However, this temple is unique where the Hindu deities and the mythological characters are depicted with the colorful glass materials. The reflections from the colorful glasses all over the temple complex makes the entire place very pleasingly colorful and attractive atmosphere.

The temple has many shrines. Some of the important idols found in the temple are:
  • Ganesha in the sitting posture
  • Ganesha in the standing posture and holding trident like Shiva
  • Krishna - Radha
  • Vishnu - Mahalakshmi
  • Santoshi Mata
  • Shiva - Shakti
  • Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman
  • Shivji on meditation with Natarja on the back side
  • Hanuman in the standing posture with abhaya mudra (unique feature)
  • Krishna playing flute with cow on his back
  • Durga with eight arms seated on her mount lion
  • Krishna in Vishwaroop - with multiple heads and multiple arms
  • Krishna preaching Gita to Arjun seated on the chariot

Happy travelling.
