Sri Adhya Katyayani Shakti Peeth temple, located in Chhatarpur area near Qutb Minar monument in Delhi, the capital city of India, is an important Hindu temple. As this temple is located in Chhatarpur area, it is popularly called as Chhatarpur temple.

The temple was established in 1974 AD by Baba Sant Nagpalji, a Delhi based Hindu saint. The temple complex spread across 70 acres is arguably considered as the second largest Hindu temple in India. Within the complex there are multiple idols and temples located.

The temple is dedicated to Katyayani, the sixth form of Nav Durga (the nine manifestations of Durga, the mother Goddess). The main shrine is located on the first floor in a massive white marble temple. The Goddess is found with sixteen hands and sitting on a lion. Apart from this shrine, there is another shrine located in a big hall where the golden idol of Katyayani is found. This shrine is not kept open everyday. It is opened only during Navaratri period everyyear.

The main temple complex also houses other small shrines such as Ganesha, Ram-Lakshman-Sita, Radha and Krishna, Gauri-Shankar and Hanuman. There is a separate temple resembling South Indian temple architecture with huge tower dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Lakshmi.

The temple is surrounded by garden, dharmasala, guest houses and several mandaps. The structure is extended even in the opposite direction.

In the temple complex situated opposite to the main temple complex, there is a huge trident (trishul) is found. A two storey temple with Baba's samadhi on the ground floor and a huge Shiv Linga idol named Nageswar found with the big serpent coiled is found on the first floor. There is a mandap named Ratha Griha located near Shivji temple. Also, there is a massive idol of Lord Hanuman found in the complex. In addition to this, the various forms of mother Goddess are found in the form of small idols in Shiva temple.

A Hindu temple which is not supposed to be missed if you visit Delhi!

Happy travelling.
