Delhi, the capital city of India, is famous for heritage sites and historical tombs. Red Fort is one of the important landmarks and prominent heritage sites located in Delhi city. Opposite to Red Fort, a famous Jain temple called Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir is located.

The Jain temple located in Chandni Chowk area is the oldest and most popular Jain temple in Delhi city. (Jainism is a religion in India). It was originally built in 1656 AD and rebuilt multiple times later. The current huge and impressive temple is built in red sandstone and hence got the name 'Lal temple' ('Lal' means 'red' in Hindi).

The temple has a manastambha (pillar) in front. The main temple is actually located on the first floor of the building. The main shrine is dedicated to Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jains. The idol of Lord Adinath, the founder of Jainism and the idol of Lord Parasnath, the predecessor of Mahavira are also found in the temple.

Happy travelling.
