Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir - Delhi

Delhi, the capital city of India, is famous for its heritage sites and historical tombs. Red Fort is one of Delhi's important landmarks and significant heritage sites. Opposite Red Fort, a famous Jain temple called Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir is located.

The Jain temple, located in the Chandni Chowk area, is the oldest and most popular Jain temple in Delhi. It was originally built in 1656 AD and rebuilt multiple times later. The current vast and impressive temple is built in red sandstone and hence got the name 'Lal temple' ('Lal' means 'red' in Hindi).

The temple has a manastambha (pillar) in front. The main temple is located on the first floor of the building. The main shrine is dedicated to Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jains. The images of Lord Adinath, the founder of Jainism and Lord Parasnatha, the predecessor of Mahavira are also found in the temple.

Happy travelling.
