Waterfalls of Courtallam

Courtallam, a small town near Tirunelveli in South India, is very popular due to its nine waterfalls. The most important waterfall in Courtallam is called "Main Falls" a.k.a. "Peraruvi". As the name suggests, this is the main waterfall of the town. The ancient Kuttralanathar temple is located near this waterfall. During the season, you can find hundreds and thousands of people in these waterfalls. You can hardly find water in the waterfalls other than the Main Falls during the off-season. Not all tourists visit all the waterfalls of Courtallam. However, no one misses Main Falls for sure.

On the way to Shenbaga Devi Falls
There is a trekking route that goes above the main falls. On the way, you can find the town's second waterfall, called "Chittraruvi" or "Small falls". As the name indicates, this waterfall is tiny. If you trek for another 3 km through the forest and streams, you will reach Shenbaga Devi Falls. This is a beautiful and massive waterfall amid the forest. If you trek for another two km above this waterfall, you can reach Thenaruvi or "Honey Falls". It is a difficult trekking route, and nowadays public is not allowed.

About 1 km from Main Falls, another falls named "Old Falls" or "Pazhaiya Aruvi" is located. This is one of the famous waterfalls of Courtallam. Nearby, a small waterfall called Puli Aruvi or "Tiger Falls" is found. About 2 km from the Old Falls, there is a little-known waterfall named "Pudhu Aruvi" aka "New Falls".

Another route takes you to another popular destination all named "Five Falls" or Aindaruvi. You can find the water falling into five different falls here, which is called "Five Falls". Near this site, inside the Government orchard, there are waterfall named "Orchard Falls" or "Pazhath thotta aruvi". You have to get special permission to visit this waterfall.

Courtallam Mountain

If you travel out of this city, within the limit of Kerala state, there is a waterfall named "Palaruvi" or "Milk Falls". Even though this is not in Courtallam town, few people consider this the ninth waterfall of the town. (This is mainly because they are not aware of "Pudhu Aruvi" (New Falls).

Happy travelling.
