Padi Pidari Amman Temple

Padi, nestled in the heart of Chennai, boasts a prominent religious site known as Tiruvalleeswarar Temple. In the vicinity of this renowned temple lies a lesser-known gem, the Pidari Amman Temple, a modest village shrine that we shall delve into in this article.

The Pidari Amman Temple stands inconspicuously, merely 50 meters away from the famed Tiruvalidayam, also known as Tiruvalleeswarar Temple in Padi.

This temple, characterized by its humble proportions, comprises a single shrine. Upon studying the Vimana's architectural style, it strongly suggests its Chola period origins. It is quite plausible that this temple was originally an integral part of the Tiruvalleeswarar Temple.

The primary deity enshrined here is Pidari Amman. Additionally, the temple pays homage to several village deities, including the Sapta Matas and Annamars. The Annanmars, a group of seven brothers venerated as village deities, bear the names Krithivandhan, Sudheshnan, Mitrasenan, Ruchu, Samantan, Pathrakkan, and Shankarshanan. Remarkably, the presence of Annanmars' icons in a Chennai-based temple is a rare occurrence.

Wishing you rewarding travels as you explore these sacred precincts.

Happy travelling.
