The King Dundumaran had a son named Shweta. The king was told by the sage Vashishtha that the boy would live only upto nine years. The sage advised the boy to take bath in the holy tank in Tirunangoor and pray to Lord Vishnu by chanting the Narasimha Mrutyunjaya mantra. Shweta followed the advice of the sage for about one month. Vishnu appeared before him and declared that he had conquered death. Lord Vishnu declared that anyone who chants this holy mantra 8000 times in this site would never be afraid of death.

The holy tank was also named after this boy as Shweta Pushkarani.

Tirumangai Alwar

The wife of Tirumangai Alwar, the famous Kumudavalli Nachiar, was born in this village.

Tirumangai Alwar had called this deity as 'Annan' in his hymns and hence the devotees call him as the elder brother (''Annan'' meaning elder brother in Tamil language) of Tirupati Balaji.

    1. Thank you. But when I visited the temple, the tower was covered as it was due for renovation. So, I couldn't take pictures. As I don't use pictures from any other source, I had to publish the article without pictures.
