Vengadamangalam Temple

Vengadamangalam, a quaint village situated near Agaram, close to Tambaram in Tamil Nadu, India, is the focal point of our exploration in this article, focusing on the newly constructed Tiruvengada Perumal temple.

This picturesque village has retained its scenic charm despite the absence of urbanization. It boasts a perpetually filled Pushkarani (temple tank) and a venerable banyan tree that has stood for many years. A few years back, the villagers initiated the worship of a photograph of Vengadaperumal (Balaji) beneath the ancient tree. Over time, regular gatherings of devotees prompted the decision to construct a grand temple dedicated to Vengada Perumal. The temple's Kumbabhishek took place on March 18, 2016. Having visited the temple on the very next day, I take pride in being among the first visitors and am delighted to share this temple's details online for others to benefit.

The temple adopts a contemporary architectural style, featuring a main shrine and a spacious pillared mandapa at the front. Currently lacking a tower or vimana, the temple has a bali peetha, with plans for a flagstaff in the future. The sanctum sanctorum houses the imposing image of Sri Tiruvengada Perumal, standing at an impressive height of approximately 9 feet.

Within the sanctum, one can find utsav images of Sudarshana, Perumal accompanied by Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi, and another smaller Perumal alongside the presiding deity. The mandapa hosts beautiful icons of Alarmel Mangai and Andal. Additionally, Garuda is situated in a dedicated shrine, facing the main sanctum.

With an east-facing orientation, the temple features a separate north-facing sub-shrine for Hanuman, located outside the main temple.

Happy travelling.
