Mahalingapuram Ayyappa Temple

The beauty of Kerala lies not only in its nature and greenery but even in its well-maintained, beautiful temples. Most of the temples for Lord Guruvayurappa and Ayyappa (the two principal deities of Kerala) all over India are built in Kerala temple architecture style. Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu state of India, also has three important temples for Lord Ayyappa. This post will talk about one of those three temples – the Ayyappa temple at the Mahalingapuram area.

The temple is very popular and a lot of devotees keep visiting this temple daily. Especially during November and December, you can find more devotees visiting this temple.

The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Ayyappa. There is another shrine having equal importance in this temple, which is dedicated to Lord Guruvayurappa. There are also small shrines in the temple, dedicated to Manjanamatha, Ganesha, and Subramanya with his two consorts. There is also an image of Lord Ranganatha (Lord Vishnu in the reclining posture) located in this temple. The temple looks beautiful in the evening as it is lit by natural light majorly.

Happy travelling.
