The main shrine also houses another presiding deity of the temple, Lord Nithya Kalyana Perumal. However, it is available in the form of Utsav vigraha (metal idol). His two consorts Sree Devi and Bhoo Devi are available along with him in the form of Utsav vigraha. As per a legend, Lord married 360 daughters of Sage Klava and hence he got the name “Nithya Kalyana Perumal”, which means the Lord who got married daily in Tamil language. All 360 were united into one and named as Lakshmi, as per the legend.
The presiding goddess of the temple is Komala Valli, whose idol is very attractive. She is available in a separate shrine. There are separate shrines for Andal, Garud, Ranganath with two wives, and Ranganayaki. There are idols of Ganesha, Achchutha, Aniruddha, Sathyan, Vaishnavi, Ramanuja,
The temple must be at least 1000 years old and it is believed to be built by Chola kings. The temple is not very huge but very beautiful. Especially the temple is located in a calm and serene place. As there is no much crowd in this village and temple, it is always a pleasant experience to visit this temple. The temple also has a tank which is located at a short distance outside the temple. There is also a belief that if unmarried men or women visit this temple and pray to God, they get married soon.
This temple is definitely one place which you should not miss when you visit Chennai. As the place is located on ECR, you can easily access this place either by the town bus or by the bus from Chennai to Mamallapuram. You can also reach this place easily by your own vehicle or taxi.
Happy Travelling.
